Tools and Techniques for Software Productivity Improvement

Speaker: Mr. Sujeet Gore

Abstract:

This paper elaborates on the usage of Tools and Techniques to achieve an improvement in productivity during a project lifecycle.

The project, on which the paper is based, involved the migration of a large proprietary mainframe based legacy application to an open J2EE architecture comprising of industry standard products. This was achieved with little or no knowledge of the application functionality.

The paper describes the methodology adopted and provides metrics on the improvement in productivity achieved by continuously improving the tools and techniques used during the project lifecycle.

This paper also talks about the lessons learned, which would be useful to those considering migration of legacy application to new technologies.

It also details the points considered during estimation and how to factor productivity improvements during the project. This helped in better resource planning by having people allocated to the project based on the variation of effort required during the project.
