FP and the CMM/CMMI
by Koni Thompson

Organizations pursuing quality initiatives based on the Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and (CMMI)® need accurate size measurements. Can Function Points satisfy those requirements? This presentation explores the CMM and CMMI® and identifies the role of Function Point Analysis within the CMM and CMMI ® to support the various measurement requirements

Included in the presentation will be

  • Function Point Basics - a brief overview of FP
    • Status of the ISO (International Standards) for Functional Sizing and the role of IFPUG.s FPA for the World Class Measurement Methodology
    • Exploring FPA definition, Primary Goals, Primary Uses
    • Discussion of Extended uses of FP and Secondary Gains Extensions and Secondary Gains
  • SEI/CMM/CMMI ABC.s
    • Brief overview of the architecture of CMM and CMMI
    • Definitions, descriptions and components
  • Applying FP to the KPA.s (CMM) and PA (CMMI)
    • Understanding of FPs to support the measurement requirements of the various KPAs and Pas within the CMM/CMMI models
