One of the major factors in success of a process improvement initiative is senior management's commitment. Understanding senior management's challenges and views will help us focus our effort to address their needs and more effectively achieve their commitment and support. In this talk, Mr. Shahryar Shaghaghi, a partner at Deloitte Consulting, will share his experiences in working with CIOs, and discuss their initiatives and challenges in balancing cost and managing organizational and operational infrastructure.
The CIOs, senior managers and practitioners will benefit from this talk.

Abstract
Title: CIO Agenda
What is in the mind of Fortune 100 CIOs? What is their current spent and what are they spending it on? What are some of their challenges?

Over the past 2-3 years, many IT organizations have tried to help their customers find ways to enhance revenue and market share while managing IT costs. This has obviously introduced a set of initiatives as well as challenges for CIOs, Challenges include programs such as rationalization of applications and infrastructure to manage and reduce costs while trying to take on initiatives to establish the foundation in areas such as On-Demand Computing and Wireless and Mobility. In this new world, CIOs are also challenged by many regulatory, privacy, and security related requirements, which typically means expenditure on IT Capital with no direct contribution to revenue enhancement. The focus of this presentation is to share with you my recent experiences in the following areas:

  • Infrastructure Optimization- Rationalization of IT Assets as well as process re-engineering and organizational alignment to obtain financial benefits
  • Utility Computing /On-Demand Computing and Predictive Operations- One of the latest hot topics, which is transforming management of production environment into a much more predictive and measurable state, and alignment of IT services to business transactions
  • Outsourcing- Lessons leaned and best practice discussions specific to Business Process Outsourcing, Hosting and Offshore Development
  • Six Sigma, CMM, and ITIL- Use of process improvement models such as Six Sigma, CMM, and ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) by some organizations and how they relate to one another
  • Enterprise Security, Privacy and Identity Management, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery- One of the most challenging areas viewed by CIOs in our world today, to maintain continuity and availability of systems while controlling integrity and access to critical information.
The value proposition of this presentation is to improve your understanding of CIO's priorities from a broader perspective. This will help you understand importance of some of the key IT initiatives and how you can leverage your extensive software process improvement capabilities into an overall IT environment.
