S. Srinivasan - Truly Integrated SCM Systems - Helping Expedite Process Improvement

Abstract:

With the recent economic slowdown, businesses have to be conscious of cost centers in their operation, particularly those businesses that are open to optimization. The pressure to reduce costs, comply with regulatory needs (Sarbanes-Oxley), and stay competitive without sacrificing quality is becoming an inevitable challenge for IT organizations. It has become beneficial for IT managers to use an integrated application of product lifecycle management, issue tracking, and software configuration (SCM) tools to help streamline their process improvement activities. This presentation will focus on understanding the benefits of an integrated SCM system to a process improvement program and overcoming the challenges of product lifecycle management, issue tracking, and software configuration (SCM) for most IT organizations.

The following items are included in this presentation -

• Configuration management and traceability throughout the lifecycle for items such as software source code, documents, images, contracts, proposals, policy documents, and web pages -- Traceability is needed for both Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and CMM/CMMI Level 2 and higher.
• Change management.
• Issue and task tracking.
• Communication management for internal and external stakeholders as well as the project team members.
• Expediting a process improvement program with the use of an integrated tool set over the use of multiple tracking and management tools that do not integrate well.

"Srini" is founder and CEO of Spectrum Software, Inc. -- a 12-year old, privately-held systems design and software consulting company based in Atlanta, Georgia. He has been involved with providing solid leadership, strategy, and customer focus for Spectrum's activities since its inception.

As President and CEO of Spectrum Software, Srini handles strategic business development and new product ideas. One of his primary goals is to make Spectrum Software one of the hottest software product companies in the new millennium.

Srini began his career in the software industry as a software engineer. He now has over 18 years of software development/consulting experience with large software development applications in the telecommunications, financial, banking and document processing industries. Srini has actively participated in all phases of the software lifecycle, with major strengths in software design and development. He has been a proven project management consultant and trainer to several large corporations in the Fortune 500.

A Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute, he holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from India, a master's degree in computer science from the University of Alabama/Birmingham, USA, and a master's certificate in project management from AT&T/Steven's Institute of Technology, New Jersey. He is an active member of PMI (Project Management Institute).

Srini is also on the Advisory Board of MphasisBFL, Ltd., a publicly-listed, mid-size IT services company in India. He is also on the Board of InKnowtek, Pvt.Ltd., a network and communication management company that provides global services and support to enterprises and telecom service providers.
