| Anyone dropping by Software Process
Improvement Network (SPIN) meetings will notice that its
increase in attendance and popularity is reflective of its
high quality speakers and events. Comprised of individuals who
want to improve software engineering practice, SPIN members
meet and share their expertise initiating and sustaining
software process improvement programs.
Recent speakers have included Christopher Pizzano, who
conducted a high-level walkthrough of the people-CMM model and
shared ideas for better engaging the business demands of the
21st century; and Dave Thomas, an international expert on
software development who spoke about ways to maximize
productivity without resorting to metrics detached from the
pragmatism of an employee's learning experience.
Most recently, Watts Humphrey, a fellow of the Software
Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University,
described the principles of modern software development work
and showed how the Team Software Process (TSP) applies these
principles in a way that permits software, make their own
plans and commitments, and consistently deliver quality
products on schedule and for their planned costs. |
