Abstract:
Process improvement methodologies and standards have been evolving rapidly for the last 40 or so years.
Some of these methodologies trace their roots back longer almost 100 years. This presentation looks at some
of the major methodologies and standards that are popular today. For each, we take a brief look at its
history, usage and coverage with respect to today’s businesses. The objective is to allow the participants
to speak intelligently about each methodology or standard. Participants will also learn where to get more
knowledge about each and begin to make some decisions on how to discuss with management which is the most
applicable in their own business.

Wrap up will include some recommendations on customizing a quality program by taking appropriate

Bio:
Mr. Fred Haigh is a Process Improvement Architect and Engineer with over 30 years of experience in
all aspects of the software development lifecycle. He has operated in all the major software development
roles. He has working experience in quality management, software development, network infrastructure
implementation and management, and IT business process management. He has industry experience in the
process control systems manufacturing, nuclear power systems, healthcare telecommunications, retail,
and web technology industries. Mr. Haigh has worked with a variety of quality models and tools including
CMMI, ITIL, Six Sigma, ISO9000, and others. He is an SEI Authorized Instructor for Introduction to
CMMI V 1.2, holds an ITIL Foundation certification, is a trained ISO Process Auditor, and is a
Six Sigma Black Belt. Mr. Haigh holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh as well as a BS in
Mechanical Engineering.
