Abstract: 

The Cox Communications internal IT Operations Group decided to reinvent itself as a competitive Managed Services and Consulting company. The ITOPSCO Business Case is the end product of that initiative. Tom Guthrie, VP, IT OPERATIONS and "President" of ITOPSCO will present the concept, vision, challenges and achievements of ITOPSCO in its first year of operation.

ITOPSCO is in the business of providing managed information technology infrastructure and applications services for the Cox Communications Company.

The mission of ITOPSCO is to be the best provider of managed information technology infrastructure and applications to work for and to work with. Our business philosophy is that we want to offer our customers the type of products and services that would cause them to want to pick us above all others at a level of service, price point and quality that causes them to do so.

The goal is to be the preferred provider of managed infrastructure technology infrastructure and application services, able to compete effectively with outsider providers on price, effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

Bio:

Tom Guthrie joined Cox in 2002 as Vice President of Information Technology Operations. In this position, he manages 200 information technology professionals and is responsible for training, deployment, operations and support of computer systems, services, networks, and applications.

Tom has been implementing Six Sigma programs in high technology companies since 1996. He brought Six Sigma to Cox Communications in 2002 and has been the executive sponsor for process improvement initiatives and programs at Cox which have generated over $10M in benefits in 2006 alone.

Guthrie has been involved in systems engineering and information technology management for more than 20 years. Guthrie has a broad base of education and experience in engineering and information technology with degrees from the United States Military at West Point and the University of Virginia.
